Northwest's resistance stalls airfare hikes
Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines has taken the wild-card position when the major airlines made efforts to hike fares. Initially, American Airlines announced increased followed by key airlines but Northwest refused to match the higher rates of its rivals. Later on, American sought to exclude from the hikes the routes travelling through Northwest hubs but Northwest maintained its defiant stance in not increasing its prices. Observers said it takes the action of one to make the whole thing crumble. Another observer said the carrier would not make any move that would make it lose business.

Northwest fare sale features free flights
Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines has unveiled a fare sale that allows customers who purchase two full-fare round-trip coach or first class tickets on any flights made not later than Dec. 18, 1998 to get a round-trip ticket for free. The offer, which is effective Nov. 5, 1998, also covers some walk-up fare categories bought by last-minute travelers. However, Northwest Airlines' post-strike fare sale is less generous than what airline experts are expecting when th airline resumed its normal operations on Sept. 21, 1998.
