Nova, TCPL granted key approvals
Article Abstract:
Nova Gas Transmission Ltd.'s union with TransCanada Pipelines Ltd. (TCPL) has received the approval of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board. Nova Gas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nova Corp., is expected to finish the merger in early July 1998. The deal, which will be voted upon by the two Calgary, Alberta-based firm's shareholders on June 29, 1998, resulted in an improved performance by both companies at the Toronto Stock Exchange with Nova stock rising by C$0.20 to close at C$16.85 and TransCanada shares improving by C$0.45 to close at C$33.

Compton snaps up Alberta properties
Article Abstract:
Compton Petroleum Corp of Calgary, Alberta, has announced a deal to acquire million worth of oil and gas properties in northwestern Alberta's Peak Arch region for C$73 million in cash from an unidentified seller. The company said that it will raise the cash through debt financing and issues shares to cover the cost of the transaction. Industry insiders believe that the seller is Coparex Canada Ltd which has tapped Banque Paribas SA to sell its assets to Compton.
