Now for Senate showdown
Article Abstract:
Australian Prime Minister John Howard escaped defeat in the 1998 election by a very slim margin. Many credit the labor Party's professionalism concerning marginal seats. Another factor helping the government was low mortgage interest rates, which Treasurer Peter Costello pointed out. Howard's slim victory is also a warning that his government needs to improve its political management and eventually change its leader.
