OSFI chief backs push for efficiency

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, which is headed by Nicholas Le Pan, is seeking to impose more efficient rules for the regulation of Canada's financial services sector. Mr. Le Pan, who rejects the British model of regulation, made his proposal in a speech to the Ontario Securities Commission.

Canada Life proposals get approval

Canada Life Financial Corp. has obtained approval from its stockholders for a poison pill strategy and an executive stock option proposal. Canada Life, which is led by chairman, president and chief executive officer David Nield, is forming a joint venture insurance firm with Bombay, India-based Centurion Bank Ltd.
