On-line travel agent signs deal with German firm

Travelbyus.com Ltd. (White Rock, BC), a Canadian on-line travel agent, has signed a deal with German competitor Travel24.com AG to form a "strategic partnership" that could lead to a merger. Under the deal, Travel24.com will take a 14.7% stake in its partner, while Travelbyus.com will buy 13% of Travel24.com. The two Internet travel companies will decide within six months whether to completely combine. In the meantime, both partners see the arrangement as a way to improve shareholder value through integration of such things as business operations, marketing and technology.

DaimlerChrysler investment not likely to create jobs

Germany's DaimlerChrysler AG has invested $1.5 billion in its Windsor, Ontario auto plant, which employs 2,175 workers. Officials with the Canadian Auto Workers labor union do not expect the plant to create more jobs for the region.
