Canadian government is planning for a more activist trade policy that is aiming at boosting trade with countries such as China, India and Brazil. The new plan comes amid concerns that a string of free-trade deals signed by Washington, with countries from Chile to Australia, is diluting Canada's special access to the giant US market.

Ottawa ready to open up farm sector to foreigners

The Canadian Wheat Board has reported that it will resist a plan to dismantle it as part of a proposal to spur trade negotiations with the World Trade Organization. Canada has expressed a willingness to open up its poultry, egg and dairy sectors to foreign companies.
