Owners play hot potato with CFCF
Article Abstract:
Winnipeg, Canada-based CanWest Global Communications Corp. has obtained CTV affiliate, CFCF-12, under its acquisition of 11 WIC Western Communications Inc.-owned television stations. CanWest's acquisition from the Vancouver, Canada-based firm represents the fourth transition of ownership for the leading English-language channel in Montreal, Canada, in less than two years. The highly lucrative television station however, faces the possibility of having a fifth ownership change. CanWest had indicated that the station could be one of the properties it will sell after its C$950 million-deal with Shaw Communications Inc., WIC's controlling shareholder.

Deal would put aluminum firm near top spot in Quebec
Article Abstract:
Alcan Aluminum Ltd would rival BCE Inc for the status as the No. 1 aluminum producer in Quebec, Canada, if it successfully closes a three-way merger with France's Pechiney SA and Switzerland's Alsuisse Lonza Group AG. The merged company's total sales would dropped with the divestiture of non-aluminum holdings, but the merged company could still exceed BCE's yearly revenues of C$27.5 billion.
