Petrocan, Suncor walk away from merger talks
Article Abstract:
Petro-Canada Inc and Suncor Inc are said to have eliminated the possibility of merging their refining and retailing operations to reduce costs. The proposed merger would have attracted major concerns as they overlap significantly in Ontario. There also seem to be no synergies in the abandoned consolidation plan since Suncor specializes in synthetic oil and Petrocan delves in heavier grades and is also a dominant player in the East Coast.
