Possible NetStar sale boosts Reitmans

Reitmans (Canada) Ltd., a Montreal, Quebec-based retailer, has confirmed it is considering to sell its stake at NetStar Communications Inc., a Toronto, Ontario-based specialty broadcaster that is being shopped for a maximum of C$1 billion. Reitmans, which controls a 16.7% stake in NetStar, said the company, together with other shareholders of NetStar, has had preliminary talks with several potential buyers. Two of the suitors of NetStar, which are rumored be the top contenders to acquire two-thirds of NetStar, are Shaw Communications of Calgary, Alberta, CanWest Global Communications Corp. of Winnepeg, Manitoba.

Alliance-Atlantis finishes $75-million bought deal

Atlantis Communications Inc. and Alliance Communications Corp. have successfully consolidated their operations in a deal worth C$75 million. The merger establishes Alliance-Atlantis Communications Inc., which is also an entertainment company based in Toronto, Ontario, and headed by President Lewis Rose. Alliance-Atlantis presently has a total outstanding debt worth C$425 million as well as letters of credit worth C$53 million for preferred stock owned by Alliance co-founders Victor Loewy and Robert Lantos.
