Power shifts for e-tailers, portals
Article Abstract:
Internet retail sites have acquired the clout to renegotiate marketing deals with major portals. While the portals used to command high rates amounting to millions of dollars, a power shift has emerged since 1998. It became apparent when America Online struck a deal with 1-800-Flowers.com which agreed to continue their contract through 2005, two years beyond their original conntract, at the same price of $42 million. The shift in marketing relationships is the first sign of weakness for the online advertising market.

Internet auction fraud increases
Article Abstract:
The incidence of Internet auction fraud is increasing as the industry itself is growing at a very fast rate. The FTC reported that fraud cases increased from 107 in 1997 to 10,700 in 1999. Complaints come mostly from buyers who do not receive the items they ordered and paid for. A National Consumers League spokeswoman said the actual number of fraud cases are probably higher because many victims do not file complaints.

Paytrust, PayMyBills join forces
Article Abstract:
Paytrust announced that it will acquire PayMyBills.com in order to strengthen its position in the online bill-payment service market.
