Southwest's no-frills exec
Article Abstract:
Southwest Airlines' Jim Wimberly, the company's newly-promoted executive vice president and COO, is as informal in dress and manner as Herb Kelleher, the CEO of Southwest Airlines. Wimberly, who has been speculated to succeed Kelleher, will replace Gary Barron, who wanted to have a lighter load for personal reasons. Kelleher describes Wimberly as a person who has the capacity to get along with people and who alleviates stress rather than promoting it. Wimberly's priority is to reclaim Southwest's previous top position in the monthly on-time report card of the Department of Transportation.
