The various privileges given to the press by the government to make them feel protected and secured are highlighted. One of the privileges includes the Supreme courts decision between the 1960s and 80s, to enlarge press protections with landmark decisions on libel, privacy and courtroom access.

Federal protection?
Article Abstract:
The media groups are on a quest to counter the confused subpoena disputes by urging the Congress to follow the lead of a majority of states and adopt a federal shield law for reporters. It is found that the proposed federal shield laws have bipartisan sponsors in both chambers of Congress.
