Pringles campaign relies on percussion

Procter & Gamble has generated higher sales and improved brand awareness by promoting Pringles through a recent advertising campaign. Pringles, which is the third-most-popular potato snack in the US, generated a moderate degree of positive impact on consumers who watched, revealed Ad Track. The nearly three-year-old effort, which used the "Once you pop, you can't stop" tagline, was produced by former agency Wells BDDP although Grey Advertising handles the Pringles account now. Fourteen percent of respondents who watched the spots for a minimum of three times enjoyed the advertising while 13% showed a dislike for it.

Citrus drink sales surge as kids obey thirst

Sales of new citrus-flavored soft drink are growing as they become more popular among teenagers and college students. Noncolas, such as Coca-Cola's Surge and Dr Pepper/Seven-Up's Squirt, have taken about 8% market share since 1990, compared with the 60% share of cola drinks. "Neon" soft drinks such as Pepsi-Cola's Mountain Dew and lemon-lime drinks such as Coca-Cola's Sprite are generating tremendous growth. In recognition of this growth, Pepsi, for instance, spends 10 times to advertise Dew, which is being linked to such alternative sports as snowboarding.

MCI ads: repetition helps recollection

MCI's ad campaign for its 1-800-COLLECT calling service is considered to be one of the most successful campaigns ever made by the company, although many regard it as annoying. Marketing consultant Laura Ries said that the commercials, which featured famous personalities such as Ed O'Neill, Wayne Knight and New Orleans Saints football coach Mike Ditka, were well-remembered by people who saw them. The commercials were not very attractive to many, but were somewhat effective with certain target groups.
