Pulling charts out of a hat
Article Abstract:
Graph-in-the-Box 2.2 is an easy-to-use graphics software package that converts spreadsheet numbers into one or more of 11 types of business graphs. Graph-in-the-Box, $139.95 from New England Software Inc, has improved methods of displaying computer graphics and can print several charts on a page. It is compatible with Ventura Publisher and Pagemaker as well as any DOS program that runs on an IBM PC, PS/2 or compatible. New England Software also offers Graph-in-the-Box Analytic, $199.95, for more sophisticated users and Graph-in-the-Box Executive, $299.95, which can handle text and has statistical and data-manipulation functions. Graph-in-the-Box and Graph-in-the-Box Analytic are both memory-resident; Graph-in-the-Box Executive requires only about 10Kbytes of active memory and 300Kbytes on hard disk. Sharing between Macs and I.B.M.'s
Article Abstract:
Pacific Microelectronics' $129 Mac-In-DOS, one of the company's CommonLink file transfer programs, is an easy to use package that provides the capability for reading files from an Apple Macintosh diskette, writing files onto one, or formatting a Mac diskette from an IBM-compatible microcomputer. Both computers must be able to handle high-density 1.44Mbyte disks. Mac-In-DOS is not only for single files; users can also move multiple files on one drive and transfer them to the other. The program also easily opens directories and navigate through a drive's hierarchy of files. Mac-In-DOS requires a two-button mouse, DOS 3.0 or later and Windows 3.0 or later. Simple files can be transferred in text mode, while complex files, such as graphics and spreadsheets, are transferred in binary mode.

An alternative Window view
Article Abstract:
Quarterdeck Office Systems' $219.90 Desqview 386 software package allows users to move windows around on a computer screen and work on one program in the foreground while the computer runs a separate program in the background. The software package runs on MS-DOS machines based on Intel Corp's 80386 microprocessor and works well with or without a mouse. Desqview can run Microsoft Windows 3.0 graphical user interface but only in real mode. Memory comes in four varieties - conventional, high, extended and expanded - and DESQview, with its companion program QEMM 386, allows users to take full advantage of the memory in a microcomputer.
