RIM profit plummets as marketing costs jump

Waterloo, Ont.-based Research in Motion Ltd. has reported that its profits declined to $388,000 in the fiscal first quarter ended May 31, 2000. RIM, which earned revenues of $27.1 million in the same period, is led by chairman and co-chief executive officer Jim Balsillie.
