U.S. firm buying Northstar
Article Abstract:
Devon Energy Corp. of Oklahoma City, OK, is acquiring North Energy Corp. of Calgary, Alberta, for C$828 million, catapulting the company into the top 15 US-based independent oil and gas producers. The new company, which will also be among Canada's top 20 producers, will have combined proven reserves of about 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 117 million barrels of oil. Northstar will continue to operate under Canadian management and under the Northstar name in Canada. Although the companies describe the transaction as a merger, analysts say it is an acquisition because Devon will assume Northstar's debt of C$455 million.
