David Dodge, Governor of the Bank of Canada stated that the central bank would pay more attention to the higher value of the Canadian dollar, suggesting that an increase in interest rates in December 2004 was not as certain as expected. Dodge stated that the bank must assess the implications of the dollar's recent climb.

Ralph Goodale, Finance Minister and David Emerson, Industry Minister are the two key federal ministers worried about the ascent of the Canadian dollar, which is heading to 85-cent (U.S.) mark. The dollar has settled a close to 84.27 cents and still up to 0.45cents from 19th November 2004.
