Rivermore Lab to boost sales oversight
Article Abstract:
Government-owned Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory will increase the supervision of its technology sales to private companies in the wake of a report which chastized the facility's handling of disputes over the rights to a potentially lucrative communications technology innovation. The report noted that Livermore broke no laws in marketing ultra-wide band radar or radio technology but criticized the lab for misleading firms about the technology's market readiness. The University of California, which runs the facility, commissioned the report and directed Livermore officials to adopt the report's recommendations.

U.S. drinking water quality data flawed
Article Abstract:
An audit by the EPA shows that government fails to report almost 90% of violations to the Safe Drinking Water Act. The government database is expected to notify consumers and establish legal action for water quality that fails to meet health standards, including failure to have water quality testing and contamination. The EPA audit examined the accuracy of the Safe Drinking Water Information System, a state-federal database that covers 170,000 public water systems.

Investigation focuses on safety at Texas weapons plant
Article Abstract:
The Energy Dept (DOE) is investigating whether contractor Mason and Hanger Corp violated safety procedures designed to reduce the risk of accidental explosions and radiation releases in its operations at the Pantex nuclear weapons assembly plant in Amarillo, TX. The probe follows complaints made by a DOE nuclear safety engineer, who suggested that safety problems at the factory were so pervasive that the DOE ought to consider shutting it down.
