CRTC orders public hearing on WIC
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has ordered a public hearing on the plans to change the structure and control of WIC Western International Communications Ltd. CRTC said that will conduct the hearing after Shaw Communications Inc and CanWest Global Communications Corp, which owns 46% of WIC's non-voting shares failed to resolve the matter between themselves. The federal regulator scheduled the hearing on Oct 26, 1999, in Hull, Quebec.

Bowater to reduce newsprint production
Article Abstract:
Bowater Inc, the biggest US newsprint producer, intends to adjust its inventorites by reducing its newsprint production by a minimum of 75,000 tons. The Greenville, SC-based company is among the seven major newsprint producers that are said to signal a price increase due on Oct 1, 1999. Hamish Kerr of Goepel McDermid Inc said that the move is a response to stockholder pressure to raise newsprint prices to increase investor returns.
