Saturn sticks with down-home pitch

Saturn's current TV commercials created by Publicis Hal Riney & Partners maintained the homespun appeal of previous Saturn ads and are considered to be effective by 30% of the 273 consumers surveyed. Thirty one percent of the consumers said the Saturn commercials strengthen the car's image. George Paterson, of consulting firm Auto Pacific, appreciated the agency's approach of focusing on the experience of buying and owning a Saturn rather than on the car. The new commercials feature more actors, instead or real owners of Saturn, who played the part of a suburban dad, an urban jogger and Internet-surfing college students.

GM goes on ad-fensive with campaign

General Motors (GM), the biggest advertiser in the US, is rolling out a commercial campaign that carries the slogan "Lots of cars. Lots of trucks. Lots of deals." The campaign, made by ad agency McCann-Erickson, is geared to counter a perception that GM is running out of inventory, according to GM Marketing and Advertising Chief Phil Guarascio. GM expects to lose market during the United Auto Workers strike, which has virtually stopped vehicle production. Guarascio said the automaker has 600,000 vehicles available.

Miller dusts off a 1970s Lite ad campaign

Miller Brewing Co is updating its successful 1970s Lite ad campaign to boost sales. The 1970s ad campaign featured sports greats and helped Miller Lite became the top-selling light beer until 1994, when it was booted out by Bud Light. The new TV commercials created by ad agency Fallon McElligott showcase pair of celebrities, most of them rival ex- jocks, to discuss the beer's merits.
