The Securities and Exchange commission is investigating whether the big brokerage firms including Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Ameritrade, Charles Schwab and E*Trade Financial are meeting their "best execution" obligation. At issue are two methods of trading - internalization and payment for order flow.
