Rigel stock rises on sale rumours

The possibility of Calgary, Alberta-based oil and gas company Rigel Energy Corp being a target of acquisition has sent its stock soaring by 13% on May 14, 1999. Among the companies being named as a possible buyer were Talisman Energy Inc, Alberta Energy Co Ltd, Berkley Petroleum Corp, Anderson Exploration Ltd and Northrock Resources Ltd. The company is valued at around C$635 million based on the closing price of C$11.25 on May 14, 1999.

Canadian Tire mulls new stores

Canadian Tire Corp, based in Toronto, Canada, is considering to open an undisclosed number of Auto PartSource outlets in 2000 in a move that could make the firm earn an additional revenue of C$500 million. The firm, which runs 430 outlets selling hardware, auto products and houseware, posted C$31.8 million in profit for 1999 first quarter, up 10% from C$28.8 million in profit posted from year-ago period.
