Canada cashes in on nature-related spending

A new report on Canada's tourism trade reveals that visitors spent $11.7 billion on outdoor activities in 1996. The report, which was commissioned by the government agency Enviroment Canada, also revealed that outdoor tourist acitivies created 215,000 jobs in Canada.

Softening truck demand forces 410 more job cuts at Navistar

Chicago, Ill.-based Navistar International Corp. has announced job lay offs of 410 workers at its Chatham, Ontario plant. Navistar, which, which cut 400 workers at the plant last month, will employ about 1,500 workers at the plant after the job cuts.

Dealer not playing around with My Favourite Doll

The company said that its mail order catalog business accounts for the majority of its sales, while online orders and walk-in customers accounts for 15% and 10%, respectively. Company president Margaret Matsui, who formed the company as a hobby in 1995, said the sales are expected to reach C$2 million in 1999.
