Bus service no longer drives riders up a wall
Article Abstract:
A team of drivers, mechanics and university staffers have transformed Ohio Stte University's shuttle bus service from a decrepit, aggravating service to an on-time, convenient transit system serving more than 80,000 people on campus every day. As a result, it takes a mere seven minutes by bus to ride from the most remote parking lot on campus to the university center, versus 30 minutes in 1998. The team was also successful in acquiring more drivers and second-hand but serviceable buses as well as in getting people to use the transit system. As a result, ridership is expected to increase from 1.3 million in 1998 to more than 3.5 million in 2000.

Some Web sites guarantee fares really are lowest
Article Abstract:
Some travel Web sites that promise to offer the lowest fares are supporting their claims with money-back guarantees. These include Ireland's Ryanair, Expedia's Travelcape.com and Biztravel.com. However, those who cannot compete against the discounts given by airlines and hotels avoid such guarantees. Rather than guaranteeing low fares, some travel sites are trying to improve their chances of offering the lowest prices by arranging contracts with suppliers.

Two airlines double fly-alone fees for children
Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines have raised fly-alone rates for children by 100%. Both airlines have increased fees for escorting children on connecting flights from $30 to $60 for every leg of a flight. According to Tome Parsons, editor of the Website Bestfares.com, the rate increase may make the cost of assistance even higher than the actual cost of plane tickets for some routes. According to Kathy Peach, the rate increases are justified because of the expense associated with assisting children.
