Britain's C&W plans U.S. service

Cable & Wireless is offering Internet access to US consumers at a monthly cost of $14.95. The company is also providing long-distance service through its UK-based telecommunications firm Internet Xperience. Cable & Wireless, which made a $1.75-billion purchase of MCI WorldCom's Internet assets, is poised to compete with long distance providers such as MCI and AT&T. Cable & Wireless is establishing its US market as an Internet provider that also offers other services, according to director Bruce Gudenberg of Cable & Wireless USA's consumer Internet marketing.

Climbing Dell flexes new Internet services
Article Abstract:
Dell Computer Corp will introduce a range of Internet-based services for consumers. The services are Dellnet, an Internet access service, a service which allows Dellnet users to back up files on their PC and store the files online and a Web portal site which assists consumers in better understanding technology and improve its utilization. Dell's new service highlights the trend in which the distinction between hardware and Internet firms are becoming obscured.
