Steel scrap gap dents industry
Article Abstract:
Buyers of steel from Canada mills would begin branching over an extra $95 a ton on 1 March 2004 in surcharges designed to compensate steel makers for surging costs of scrap and other raw materials amid a price spiral that is threatening to spin out of control. The shortage of scrap that is one of the key causes of both soaring base prices and the surcharges is so acute that mini-mill steel maker for three days on February 2004.

Coke's the real thing for Stelco suitors: Plant that makes key steel ingredient seen as valuable
Article Abstract:
Stelco Inc. has documents, which are 25-year-old permits from the Ontario government that permit Lake Erie Works to double their output of coke. These permits have evoked interest amongst the suitors of Stelco Inc. like OAO Severstal and another bidder, which is a partnership between Sherritt International Corp. and the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, though the worth of these permits to the other bidders is not yet determined.
