Stelco upgrading two operations
Article Abstract:
Stelco Inc., the largest steel manufacturer in Canada, has announced that it will put in C$160 million to upgrade and expand the capacities of its two production facilities. Stelco's Lake Erie Steel Co. Ltd. in Nanticoke in Ontario, Canada, will undertake a C$120-million upgrade that will increase the plant's yearly hot strip rolling capacity by 500,000 tons to 2.7 million tons. The Stelco-McMaster Ltee in Contrecouer in Quebec will be refitted with a new 16-stand, in-line rolling mill and extended cooling to boost its production capacity by over 100,000 tons to about 600,000 tons annually. Both plants are expected to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2000.
