The Health Insurance Assn of America and consumer advocacy group Families USA, which typically are at odds regarding health care issues, are in consensus that solutions must be found to enable 44 million Americans to be able to obtain health insurance. Both groups agree that the concept of universal health coverage may become economically viable if policymakers expand existing low-income programs rather than attempting to radically change the entire healthcare system.

Workers may pay more for care

US workers might begin shouldering more of the cost associated with health care. The latest development, which comes as a result of the economic slowdown in the country, is being proposed as a viable alternative to reducing health care coverage. A number of employers are already working with benefit management companies in an effort to design better health care packages for their employees.
