Brampton, Ont.-based SIRIT Technologies Inc. has developed a new transponder reader that will be installed at McDonald's fast food restaurants. SIRIT, which will place the transponders at five Los Angeles area drive-through restaurants, is led by president Michael Briand.

Air Canada has entered into a deal with the Canadian Auto Workers and plans to cut its annual $3.1 billion labor bill by $1.1 billion. The airline has cut hundreds of million of dollars in supplier costs and interest payments in order to transform Air Canada into a lean airline that can compete with lower-cost rivals like WestJet Airlines Ltd.
