Study finds Internet of social benefit to users
Article Abstract:
Pew Internet and American Life Project study set out to determine the quality of online communications. Researchers interviewed 3,533 adults by telephone. 1,690 were Internet users. They found that 8% of Internet users felt socially isolated, against 18% of non-users. 75% of Internet users had visited family or friends the day before the survey; compared to 61% of non-users. Internet users reported e-mail had strengthened ties with family and friends. A contrasting study by the Stanford Institute for the Quantitative Study of Society released in February measured the amount of time Internet users spent on different activities. It concluded that they were spending less time with family and friends than non-Internet users.

In Online Auctions, Misspelling in Ads Often Spells Cash
Article Abstract:
One of the unusual developments on eBay auctions is the impact of misspellings of items put up for sale. Sellers experience no interest in their misspelled items which buyers take for almost next to nothing and then resell them with listings that are spelled correctly. The new bids are considerably higher and the sales provide an unexpected profit.
