File-sharing software may transform the Net
Article Abstract:
Experts believe that file-sharing software such as Napster, Gnutella and Freenet may revolutionize the Internet. These software allow online users to search each others' PCs for music, video or any other kind of information, then trade those files for free. Web consultant and professor Clay Shirky describes file-sharing software as the most important piece of software written since Mosaic. On the other hand, industry personalities such as Mosaic author Marc Andreesen, Esther Dyson and Intel Chmn Andy Grove believe file sharing is a substantial fork in the Internet road.

Sun-Microsoft rivalry one of dislike, distrust
Article Abstract:
Microsoft's rivalry with Sun heightens as both firms compete in increasing number of markets. Sun, in US District Court in California, sues Microsoft for an antitrust lawsuit over the latter's alleged violation of the Java contract. On the other hand, Microsoft, which acquired a stake in Apple Computer, is gearing to counter Sun's Java technology by acquiring other firms targeted for acquisition by the latter company. Microsoft and Sun compete in markets that include desktop computers, servers, set-top TV boxes and palm-top computers.
