Teleglobe to get personal
Article Abstract:
Teleglobe Inc.'s new strategy involves plans to create a network of thousands of independent sales representatives to personally market long-distance telephone service worldwide. The initiative is a result of the firm's C$10-billion merger with Excel Communications Inc. of Dallas, TX, which joins both firms under the Teleglobe name. The merger calls for retaining the Montreal,Canada, head office of Teleglobe and will be led by Excel CEO Kenneth Trout as president, CEO and vice-chairman. According to Trout, Teleglobe will utilize similar sales strategy to expand across the G7 nations namely Japan, Italy, France, the US, Canada, Britain and Germany.

Thomson to expand global operations
Article Abstract:
Thomson Corp will broaden its global operations either through acquisitions or joint ventures. Speaking before an annual shareholders meeting, Chairman Ken Thomson said Asia and Europe are prime candidates for the expansions. He added that the expansion would involve Thomson's five product groups: the reference, scientific and health care unit; educational publishing; legal and regulatory publishing; and financial information.
