Three recent events have caused people to feel less safe in the world: the downing of TWA Flight 800, the Centennial Olympic Park bombing and the mudslides in Quebec's Saguenay region. Although these events are tragic, the outpouring of support for the victims and families may help unify Canada.

Making a difference
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of Canadians are volunteering their time for various charities and community projects. In an era of downsizing and government cutbacks, volunteerism is an important element in keeping communities vital. However, volunteerism cannot completely replace government services.

Canada is approaching its 130th anniversary as a nation, and the country has many reasons to celebrate. Despite continuing economic problems such as unemployment, the country is still one of the best places to live. The UN recently ranked Canada top among all nations for human development.
