Article Abstract:
Infant mortality in the US is surprisingly high considering that 36,500 of the four million babies born daily fail to survive. The statistics translates to 9.8 deaths for every 1,000 infants born in 1989. Twenty countries led by Japan and Sweden lead the US in infant survival. These countries have better financed health and social programs. An issue that straddles both the social and economic spheres aside from the purely medical aspect is the higher incidence of the problem among minorities especially black Americans. These minorities are generally reeling in poverty.

Article Abstract:
Muslims in the United States, who come from all over Asia, the Middle East and Africa, seek the religious freedom guaranteed by the US constitution, but often find themselves discriminated against because of their beliefs and customs. The contradictions between Muslim faith and American culture create many situations of conflict for worshippers which are exacerbated by media coverage which is biased against Islam. The recent World Trade Center bombing was a case where Muslims in general felt blamed for the actions of a few.
