The issues
Article Abstract:
Recent studies indicate that the fitness boom that first started during the 1970s is finally on the decline. Fewer Americans are vigorously involved in serious physical activity aimed at improving health as earlier believed. Although manufacturers of exercise-related machinery claim that their products are continuously being sold, research has indicated that the actual use of these machines by consumers has been sporadic at best. Another fitness-related problem facing the US is the physical state of children. Statistics indicate that a large percentage of children are physically unfit.

The new moderation
Article Abstract:
Americans are scaling down their exercise regimens and habits. The new trends in aerobics and other forms of exercise for the 1990s emphasizes moderation as the new key to health. One reason for this re-emphasis was the increase in reports linking overexertion to serious injuries. Exercise aficionados are finally adopting a practical approach to exercise, discarding old methods which could ultimately cause injury rather than good health.

End of a boom cycle?
Article Abstract:
America's present interest in physical fitness may be on the wane. Some believe that the interest in exercising and physical fitness may merely be a fad copied from the rich. In most instances, the popularity of physical fitness has been directly related to the prevailing tastes of the affluent. The introduction of new types of fitness machines also influences interest in the subject.
