A friendship too close, a job too far
Article Abstract:
Sen. Warwick Parer, a good decent man who got caught up in a scandal, is being urged to resign for the good of the party. Parer is a close friend of John Howard, and should resign for that reason, critics say. Parer's resignation might help Howard in the polls as well the Liberal party. Critics contend Parer could resign in March and be back in the ministry by the end of July 1998.

Lots of static, but Mal's message is loud and clear

Colston's votedestroyed the Liberals' budget promises, election plans, and threw the government into disarray. Many observers believe the government humiliated Colston when Howard refused to accept his vote and other lawmakers sought to destroy his reputation.
