Tough law needed to bite into spam

Internet service provider I.D. Internet Direct Ltd. has asked the Ontario Court's General Division for a "cease and desist" order against "spam artist" Cory Altelaar. The company claimed that Altellar sent 600,000 e-mails over its system during a two-month period, thus overloading its network and aggravating its customers. Altelaar has been sending e-mails that offer the recipients the chance to earn C$33,600 a year by sending a check for C$27 to his home in Lindsay, Ontario.

BCE Emergis sells TotalNet to PsiNet
Article Abstract:
BCE Emergis Inc of Montreal, Quebec, has announced the sale of its Internet access unit called TotalNet to PsiNet Inc of Herndon, VA. PsiNet has reportedly paid around C$500-$600 per subscriber or total of C$30 million-$35 million for TotalNet, which has 60,000 online users in Ontario and Quebec. The acquisition would make PsiNet the second-largest ISP in Canada with 200,000 subscribers, next to Sympatico with 650,000 subscribers.
