Transat writes off planes

Transat A.T. Inc. has decided to take a write-down of $105-million on some of its planes and other assets, while continuing to decrease the size of its travel and tour operations. The firm, based in Montreal, announced that it is retiring 7 Lockheed L-1011 planes that had already been taken out of service.

Transat A.T. Inc. posted 15.4 million Canadian dollars in profits for the 2003 second quarter, compared to 15.5 million Canadian dollars in the same 2002 period. The company was affected by the war in Iraq and by the outbreak of the SARS disease.
