TrizecHahn postpones restart of Bay-Adelaide
Article Abstract:
TrizecHahn Corp., a real estate developer based in Toronto, Ontario, has postponed the restart of construction on its proposed 50-story building in downtown Toronto after failing to prelease a significant chunk of space. The company had announced that it would restart construction on the Bay-Adelaide Center in fall 1998, hoping that it would have signed an anchor tenant by then. Construction was originally put on hold in 1993 following the collapse of Toronto's real estate market. Industry sources say TrizecHahn wants to sign on one of Canada's big chartered banks, but the uncertainty on whether the federal government will approve two proposed mergers involving four of Canada's six largest banks has prompted the banks to postpone any investment decision.
