Sun makes claims on domain names
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems has notified companies that register Web domain names that they disallow applications for Internet addresses that end in '.biz' in what could be a protracted intellectual property legal issue. Domain name registrars are a bit miffed at Sun which are already having a debate about the allocation of new Web addresses. Any business may challenge a new address via the application process. Sun has filed claims on the names but feels the need to go further down the legal path.

U.S. abandoning its effort to break apart Microsoft, saying it seeks resolution; sharp shift from Clinton's policy focuses on less severe steps
Article Abstract:
The Bush administration Justice Dept. announced that it would no longer pursue the breakup of Microsoft as a remedy for antitrust violations. The government will also drop its request that Microsoft stop bundling its software with its operating systems. That leaves only the issue of a remedy for Microsoft's anti-competitive behavior toward competitors to be resolved in further legal activity. This move signals that there will be a much less punitive stance toward antitrust violations by the Justice Dept. in the future.

States involved in the Microsoft antitrust lawsuit have agreed to ask the federal judge in charge of the case for more time to consider the terms of the settlement reached by Microsoft and the Justice Department.
