U.S. court upholds rail merger moratorium

The United States Court of Appeals upholds the moratorium on rail mergers set by the Surface Transportation Board. The ruling delays Canadian National Railway Co.'s planned merger with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. and may end the deal between the two companies.

U.S. Railway wants track access

The U.S. railroad company, OmniTrax Inc., has asked the Canadian government to grant it running rights on track owned by other railroads, in this case Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway. The two Canadian companies oppose the move.
