Farm owners passionately defend crops
Article Abstract:
Walnut Tree Farm owners, brothers William, John and Eddie Brigham, are passionate about their defense of genetically modified crops. The brothers confronted members of Greenpeace Britain as they destroyed 2 acres of herbicide-tolerant corn planted in the brothers' farm near Norwich, England. The group's act of vandalism and the brothers' valiant defense of their farm captured the attention of British newspapers and TV. The event is likely to catch the nation's attention when the attackers go on trial on Apr 3, 2000.

Coffee producers brew plan to raise prices
Article Abstract:
Coffee producing countries are planning to boost prices by stockpiling 20% of their export-grade coffee. Since Dec 1999, futures prices for coffee have dropped from $1.50 a pound to 80 cens a pound in Oct 2000. The pact among the 19 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, however, has had little effect since a pound of coffee for delivery in Dec 2000 closed on Oct 9 at 79.95 cents on the New York Coffee, Sugar and Cocoa Exchange.
