U.S. oil and gas man hired as Philip CEO

Scrap metal and industrial services company Philip Services Co of Hamilton, Ontario, has named Anthony Fernandes to replace company co- founder Allen Fracassi as chief executive officer. Fernandes was most recently executive vice-president of diversified energy company Atlantic Richfield Co, of Los Angeles, CA. Philips, which filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy protection in June 1999, is expected to emerge in Oct 1999 after financial restructuring.

Female-led firms break new ground at venture forum

Vancouver, BC-based NCompassLabs Inc., which is an Internet software company, is led by chief executive officer Gerri Sinclair. NCompassLabs expects to obtain between $10 million and $15 million in venture capital financing at an event organized by the National Women's Business Council and the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs.
