Teleglobe shares jumps on takeover rumours
Article Abstract:
Share prices of Teleglobe Inc increased 10% on Oct 4, 1999 on news that the long-distance telecommunications firm was a takeover target. Teleglobe shares increased $2.60 to close at $28.10 at the Toronto Stock Exchange. The increase in Teleglobe's shares was influenced by the bidding war in the US between MCI WorldCom Inc and BellSouth Corp for Sprint Corp. Teleglobe announced that its profits are expected to be between 48 to 50 cents a share for this year.

Beamscope expects to double sales

Beamscope Canada Inc. projects that its sales of ExpressVu Inc.'s satellite-television systems will increase by 100% to 200,000 units prior to the end of the fiscal year 1999. Beamscope Canada, a distributor of electronic and computer products, attributed the rise in sales to a projected increase in consumers' use of satellite-television systems due to reduced costs of equipment and greater programming options.
