Soon after the UN and NATO pledged to support the besieged Muslim enclave of Gorazde, the sole remaining 'safe area,' the US Senate passed a measure to lift the arms embargo against Bosnia. Bosnian government officials hailed the vote, but the UN opposed it. Bosnia's Muslims suffered more casualties.

Article Abstract:
The previous Muslim 'safe haven' of Srebrenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina, was invaded by Serb forces on July 11, 1995, while the UN, US and other Western powers vacillated over what course of action to take. A French proposal to send in land troops was rejected by the US and the UK.
