New generation takes Arista helm

Officials of BMG Entertainment have named Antonio Reid as the new CEO of Arista Records Inc replacing founder Clive Davis. Davis claims he was replaced due to the mandatory retirement policy of BMG parent Bertelsmann, a claim which Bertelsmann denies. Davis is considered a legend in the industry and is credited with influencing the music industry for four decades. Reid founded LaFace Records and was the recipient of three Grammy Awards as a producer and songwriter.

Universal taking over Rondor Music
Article Abstract:
Independent music publishing firm Rondor Music has been acquired by the Universal Music Group for an estimated $400 million and will make Universal the second-largest music publisher behind Time Warner. Media companies such as Time Warner and Universal are acquiring independent music publishers to secure licensing rights to songs. Music publishers earn mostly from fees paid for playing songs commercially.
