Some find Seagram CEO's strategy hard to pinpoint
Article Abstract:
Seagram owner Edgar Bronfman Jr's decision to sell the family business to Vivendi has been criticized by observers and entertainment executives. His ability as a businessman was praised when he turned the liquor company into a showbiz power by buying 80% of Universal in Apr 1995. However, his other deals such as the sale of Universal's domestic TV production arm, the firing ofFrank Biondi as Universal's CEO and the purchase of PolyGram in 1999 have left observers confused. Vivendi bought Seagram for $34 billion, a price which is 25% more than Seagram's market price before the acquisition.
