Winfrey sticks with show
Article Abstract:
King World Productions and Harpo Productions, the studio of talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, have reached a new agreement that will require Winfrey to stay with The Oprah Winfrey Show through the year 2002. The new deal will enable King World Productions to retain Winfrey's services as a host of the highly-rated program for at least two years more after her contract's scheduled expiration in the year 2000. The new deal, however, will substantially reduce the distribution payments King World Productions will secure during Winfrey's extended stay as host of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Box offices are booming
Article Abstract:
Box office revenues for the first six months of 2000 have already reached $2.82 billion and are 10% higher than the $2.56 billion earned for the same period in 1999, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations. Exhibitor Pres Paul Dergarbedian said there were three factors for the higher revenues. These are the greater number of movies shown, with 52 movies already shown across the US from Jan to Jun 2000; higher ticket prices, at an average of $5.08; and with more people going to the movies.

Tarzan to the rescue? Disney hopes so
Article Abstract:
Walt Discey Co hopes that its latest animated motion film Tarzan will offset the latest setbacks which it has recently suffered. Its stock price is 26% lower than last year, its 2nd qtr earnings fell 30% from last year and its Creative Content Div is reporting lesser earnings due to lesser demand for its toys and home videos. Disney's reliance on animated films is expected to increase but it is facing more competition from other animated film makers.
