Yahoo sees weak profit, plans layoffs

Yahoo reported weak profit and revenue for 1st qtr 2001. As a result, the company is laying off 12%, or 420, of its 3,500 employees within Apr 2001. The company, which is one of the crown jewels of the Internet economy, is blaming the drought in dot-com advertising and the flagging economy for weaker profit. Yahoo announced that it will save $40 million in 2001 from layoffs and cutbacks in travel, marketing and other expenses.
