Roastery perks up wholesale coffee business

Toronto-based Roastery Coffee Co. is launching a strategy to increase its share of the lucrative specialty coffee market in the US. The company sold its two retail coffee shops in the Toronto area and opened a new division in Port Huron, MI, callled Mountainview Roastery Coffee Co. in 1997. The company will focus on selling about 80 coffee blends, including a dozen "socially responsible" fair trades, from 20 regions around the world.

Lab team takes high-tech tools low-cost

Qubit Systems Inc delivers low-cost lab equipments for colleges and universities, spurred by the growing demand for such instructive products. The company reaped $660,000 in revenue in 1998 for the scientific instruments, including an equipment to measure the amount of carbon dioxide or oxygen moving through the leaf. Qubit is currently working on instruments targeted for military and agricultural purposes.
